The Princess of Wales's Annual Festive Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including award-winning actors.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
